Central Line Train Prep Whitewash

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Remember the scandal of the less than adequate train prep on the Central Line when the Metronet strike was called off? And remember Tubeworker saying we would not hold our breath waiting for the HMRI to deal with it?

It's a good job we didn't, cos we'd have died of asphixiation long since. Since September's scandal, the issue has been discussed at Tier 2, Safety Forum and back down to a Central Line Committee. LU's Chief Engineer produced a 'report' which would have been more accurately named a 'whitewash'. RMT head office wrote to our beloved Railway Inspectorate (HMRI), who reassured us of their satisfaction with LUL's conduct!

The result is that Central Line drivers have no confidence in LUL, its Chief Engineer or the HMRI. And it's another reminder to all of us that the HMRI is little more than a toothless tiger which gives a stamp of legitimacy to employers' unsafe practices. We can not rely on bodies like this; we can only rely on our own self-activity as workers - which is exactly what Central Line drivers did on that day, and a week later, too.
