Wot No Track Licence?

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Tubeworker hears a rumour that management are looking at the possibility of CSAs not being track licensed. The phrases "saving money", "cutting corners" and "deskilling" come to mind. There are obvious implications for health and safety, especially for dealing with incidents and emergencies, where CSAs can be required to help on the track.

And it could also be used by management as an excuse to cut pay, or even to introduce different rates of pay - which would make it an equality (or inequality) issue.

If a CSA developed a condition that prevented them going on the track safely, we would of course want them to keep their job without the licence with suitable arrangements eg. a medically-restricted post. But a generalised policy that CSAs do not require the licence is something entirely different - and something we need to oppose.
