Refurb Separates Staff

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Following the Euston refurb, there is a new control room, where the Control Room Assistant sits on their own with the monitors and service information, and a new, separate Supervisors' office, where the Supervisors sit.

This prevents teamwork between them, with the Control Room Assistant dealing with emergency situations on their own, sometimes feeling resentful of their increased workload and isolation. It has also left Supervisors feeling vulnerable about their jobs, as management may claim that two Supervisors on duty seems superfluous under the new set-up.

The unions need to resist this new way of working, which may creep in under the guise of refurbishment. The need for Supervisors with easy access to the equipment that helps them run a station has not gone away. Station staff feel more supported if they have a team of people in there working together with all the equipment they need!
