'Maintenance optimisation'? Maintenance cuts, more like!

Management seem to think that checks on trains currently carried out every 14 days need only happen every 28 days. These checks are for stuff like brake block wear and cracks in brackets - problems which have caused lots of problems in the past, and will cause a shedload more when we are only looking for them half as often.

Management have slipped this in under the pretext of a 'trial' at Upminster depot, claiming that they are checking the use of consumable items. It turns out, though, that they are looking for pretexts to cut safety checks.

And if check are done half as often, then you don't need as many workers to do the check, do you? So once again, jobs as well as safety are in the firing line.

We need to defend jobs in all parts of the Underground - starting with a big Yes vote in the industrial action ballot!
