4LM Depots and Sidings: No to ATO

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on Sun, 21/03/2021 - 09:59,

LUL management seem determined to impose automatic train operation (ATO) even in teh largest and most complex depots and sidings.

Every Tube worker knows that depots and sidings contain extra hazards. Unpredictable train movements, people walking across the track, cleaning and maintenance work and various other factors

Although ATO is already used in depots and sidings on some lines, the company is now taking a step beyond that and insisting on imposing it in even the largest 4LM (sub-surface lines) depots and sidings. These locations are simply too unpredictable for automatic train operation. To be safe, to avoid causing accidents, a train must be driven by a driver.

RMT has declared itself in dispute with the company over this. Drivers will be discussing what forms of industrial action will be most effective in getting LUL to drop this reckless plan.
