TSSA big cheeses: Out of order

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

Many rank-and-file TSSA members want to fight the staffing cuts. Perhaps they are sick of being told to scab by their union, and realise that if we are united, and take solid action, then we can win.

So - we hear - they got their branch to pass a resolution asking for the TSSA to go into dispute with the company. What happened next? Apparently, the General Secretary ruled it out of order on the grounds that the process of negotiation with the company had not yet been exhausted.

Not yet exhausted?!? The unions and the company have been negotiating for a 35-hour week for nearly ten years!! They have been talking about this particular deal for nearly two! Perhaps TSSA's head honcho wants to wait until management have imposed the rosters before going into dispute - ie. until it is too late to do anything meaningful about it!

TSSA members need to cause a right stink about this. If, when it comes to RMT taking action, TSSA has still not joined the fight, then TSSA members should sign up to the RMT.
