DLR strikes announced

Posted in Tubeworker's blog on ,

After their strike ballot returned a 9-1 majority in favour of striking, DLR staff will be out from 29-31 January and from 4-6 February, in two 48-hour strikes. They'll also be taking action short of strikes in the form of a rest-day working and overtime ban from 31 January to 1 February.

The ballot result shows a clear feeling for action, and it's great that the second strike will coincide with action on London Underground, meaning they'll be maximum impact across the network.

The dispute has lots of demands, including an improved pay offer, an end to management abuse of the disciplinary procedure, and an end to casualisation.

The union says it's had a "total breakdown of industrial relations" with Serco, the cowboy private company that runs the DLR. That's what happens when private companies get their hands on public services! The DLR should be part of an integrated, publicly-owned, democratically-controlled transport system.

Full solidarity to DLR staff in their strikes!
