London AWL members joined a protest on Saturday 22 December demanding freedom for the detained Iranian students.

There were about 50 Iranian exile leftists there, of various tendencies. Seven AWL members and a few of our contacts made up the big majority of the non-Iranians there. Sadly, there was no presence from the "Hands Off The People of Iran" campaign, despite all its talk about supporting workers and students in Iran against the regime.

There was a good atmosphere, and the AWL's statement of support for the detained students went down well. AWL member Sofie Buckland addressed the protest, and recorded a number of interviews for a film she is making about Iran.
