Stations Slaughtered: more reports ...

After our post yesterday, we have received more reports about stations being slaughtered by lack of coverage:

  • In the middle of the morning peak at Euston, one member of staff had to cover both Way In and Way Out gates alone because other duties were not covered.
  • Chaos ensued at Loughton on Saturday...

Defending Agreements, Defending Jobs

On the weekend the Northern Line was closed between Golders Green and Euston, local reps had assurances that no one would be moved from Hampstead and Belsize Park, both section 12 stations. The Framework Agreement says staff cannot be moved (except for unanticipated situations, which this was not)...

Situations Vacant

With engineering work on the Northern line this weekend, management's freeze on stations vacancies is seeing some chickens coming fluttering home to roost.

Left short-handed at Golders Green, with the Special Requirements Team unavailable, managers seem to think that they can move staff from other...

Gis a Lift

The power failure to the lifts at Hampstead Station, which we reported last time, continues. Two lifts have been taken out of service altogether due to problems with the ropes.

Local management issued an instruction that, should the power to the remaining two lifts fail, the station should be...

Hampstead Lifts Fiasco

For most of July, the power to the lifts at Hampstead, the deepest lift underground station, repeatedly failed. The four lifts are well past their sell-by-date, but TubeLines have decided to operate them to their full life expectancy.

With no power to the lifts, all four were getting stuck in the...

Cleaners Driven Up The Wall!

ISS on TubeLines are trialling a new scheme to save themselves some money and squeeze more work from their employees.

At stations including Euston, deep cleaning that would formerly have been done during engineering hours will be done during traffic hours; no extra staff will be employed. With two...

When is a Ticket Office Not a Ticket Office?

Ticket Office staff at Goodge St Station came into work one morning last week to find that their 'Tickets and Assistance' window had been turned into an 'Information' booth. Not because the ticket sellers have suddenly stopped selling tickets......but because management, continuously striving to...

Cleaners overlooked - again

As part of the refurb at Tottenham Court Road, London Underground have recently taken over a subway that used to belong to Camden Council. There is no gate to block this subway from the street, so it is open all night long for people to pee in, sleep in and the rest of it. The subway used to be...

Gone Fishing

Edgware group staff have discovered to their great alarm that the ticket office safe (SLS) is not, erm, safe.

In an experiment, it took them just six minutes to fish a cash bag from inside the SLS out through the top. The implications for staff are serious. You could be as honest as the day is long...

Defective Seats and Defective Managers

LUL seems to have a problem fitting safe and comfortable seats in drivers' cabs - and with drivers who complain about it.

On the Central Line, an RMT safety rep is refusing to drive because the seats pose such a danger to back health.

And on the Northern line, one particular manager has taken it...
