Stop job cuts!

The fight to stop cuts to railway jobs.

DB Cargo jobs to go?

Freight operator DB Cargo has announced that it intends to cut 95 drivers' jobs.

Although it plans to do this by scrapping vacant posts rather than by making any drivers redundant, it is still a very bad move.

Firstly, if it doesn't need these jobs right now, then it could keep the same number of...

Keep up the campaigning on ticket offices

RMT has called demonstrations at train stations around the country in response to the recently announced consultation on ticket offices, a likely prelude to mass closures and job cuts. Details of the protests, which will take place between 11 and 21 July, can be found on the RMT website here.

Ticket office closures loom: step up the strikes!

A public consultation is due to begin on the closure of nearly 1,000 ticket offices across the rail network. Closing offices, something employers have already achieved on London Underground, has been a central aim of cost-cutting industry "modernisers" for many years. Closures would lead not only to...

New offer on Network Rail: “Go on strike, and stay on strike”!

RMT has published sent the latest offer from Network Rail, with annotated responses from reps on the National Operations Council and National Maintenance Council.

This is a good move on two counts; firstly, it’s transparent and allows all members to scrutinise the full offer in detail. Secondly...

Access Needs Staff

The Disability News Service (a reliably good source of information on all matters concerning disabled people) has revealed a report that Thameslink is inaccessible to many disabled people, and that much of the rail network has the same issue.

Crucially, it points out that improvement to physical...

TSSA members join the fight

More than 6,000 TSSA members at Network Rail have voted for industrial action over pay, jobs, and conditions, potentially bringing them into battle alongside RMT members at Network Rail, and RMT, Aslef, and other TSSA members at the TOCs.

TSSA disaggregated its ballot into three sections, with...

Wot, No Strike Dates?

Nine days on from our ballot results, RMT’s NEC still has not called any industrial action, and plans not to do so until at least next Tuesday. Given the law’s requirement for fourteen days’ notice, that means no action until at least four weeks after our vote!

Why the prevarication? We voted for...

The Fight is on!

The fight is well and truly on, as rail workers across the country have voted in huge numbers to strike for better pay and to defend jobs and conditions.

In Network Rail and all but two of the Train Operating Companies that RMT balloted, members smashed through the thresholds set by the anti-union...

RMT announces national rail dispute: take the fight to the bosses!

RMT has announced that it is in dispute with Network Rail and 17 Train Operating Companies (TOCs), and says it will ballot members to win the following demands:

  • A substantial increase in your rate of pay
  • A no-compulsory redundancy guarantee
  • No detrimental changes to your working practices and terms...
  • Network Rail and TOCs: fight needed

Network Rail has revealed plans to reduce maintenance by around 50%, which will lead to around 600 job cuts. Network Rail plans to erode terms and conditions in maintenance grades and hasn't given us a pay rise since 2019.

In mid February, RMT met with NR bosses and demanded:
    - a cost of living pay...
